Guidelines

 

Open dialogue and active listening is expected in order to facilitate a safe environment for sharing experiences, ideas, and knowledge with each other. Open dialogue includes sharing what comes up, asking questions, and actively listening to understand rather than respond to the teacher or community member.

Ask for Permission when sharing sensitive or traumatic experiences that include physical, emotional, or spiritual harm. We know that sharing such experiences in community can be deeply healing. However, we honor the right to choose to participate in the live discussion of sensitive topics.

Take what you need and leave the rest in Sanctuary School you’ll be exposed to new ideas, practices, and tools. Use your discernment concerning what information will be supportive to your growth, healing, and spiritual journey.

Uphold the Boundaries of teachers and fellow community members. Boundaries are respected and include honoring names, pronouns, and personal preferences. We encourage students to share their boundaries and preferences openly as they arise.

Managing Your Health is a responsible for all students which includes to your physical and mental health as needed. Managed mental health diagnoses and a sound mind are required to enroll in Sanctuary School. Our community, courses, events, retreats, etc. are not intended to diagnose, treat, or replace the support of a mental health or medical professional.

 

Code of Conduct

 

Disrespect in virtual classrooms or events including harassment or bullying. Engaging in the following is grounds for review, disciplinary action, or dismissal:

  • Bullying, verbal or physical harassment, or disrespect at virtual or in person events

  • Discrimination of protected classes ie. race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, or disability

  • Refusal to honor the boundaries and preferences of teachers and students

  • Behavior that disrupts teachers or students

  • Refusal to fellow the code of conduct

  • Not uploading a profile photo to an account after team communication

Confidentiality is required due to the sensitive nature of our four pillars conversations, recordings, and correspondence are to stay within the container of Sanctuary School. Engaging in the following is grounds for review, disciplinary action, or dismissal:

  • Sharing personal information about teachers or community members

  • Recording video or audio of classes or group work

  • Sharing video or audio of classes or group work

Disciplinary Action or Dismissal At Sanctuary School we seek to create a nourishing, comfortable, and open environment for our students. To honor this goal any violation of the Student Code of Conduct and Guidelines will result in or dismissal at the discretion of our founder, counsel, and guest teachers.

Boundaries in the intimate space Sanctuary School facilitates we ask that students be aware of their level of engagement and sharing. Engaging in the following is grounds for review or disciplinary action:

  • Over engagement during class by speaking too often or interrupting the teacher or students frequently

  • Oversharing via trauma or emotional experiences and other forms of personal information

  • No Self Promotion within Sanctuary School, to keep it centered around the education, connection and offerings from Black Girl Magik
